Procedures for custom clearance at U.S. Ports (please note that each U.S. Port is independent, therefore, they don’t have the same procedures) U.S. Customs at Champlain, NY (518-298-8335) : Your vehicle bought in the United States comes with a Certificate of title. This title (original) has to be sent to customs at least three (3) days before the vehicle crosses the border. With the original title, you have to send two (2) photocopies of both sides of the title with a copy of the bill of sale. You can also bring the title with the copies and bill of sale directly to the customs. If you bring directly the papers to the customs, they will give you a Homeland Security, on witch is indicated a crossing date (date to export). You absolutely have to send us a copy. If you send your documents by mail, you will have to communicate with them to get the date, and then give us the date. Please note that if your title and copies have not been sent by time, we will have to leave your vehicle at a secured lot until the crossing date. Storage fees will then be applicable.
